Overview - DISCOUNT STORE SOFTWARE SITE LICENSE (25 USERS)

Teach real-life shopping and money math skills while improving critical-thinking.

These three money-math software programs give students a realistic experience in looking for and buying items on a shopping list as well as getting the "best buy" at a store. Each program covers 70 items commonly found in discount or drug stores, expanding students' vocabulary while improving their decision-making and addition skills. Game play works essentially the same in all three software programs.

Drug Store
Departments include Medicine, Hair Products, Greeting Cards, and Skin Care. Items include vitamins, shampoo, birthday card, and soap.

Discount Store
Departments include Kitchen Supplies, School Supplies, Pet Section, and Clothing. Items include baking dish, pencils, dog food, and tennis shoes.

Grocery Store
Departments include items in the Produce, Meat, Grain, Baked Goods, Canned Food, Dairy, Condiments, Snack, Drink, and Frozen Food. Items include bread, milk, sodas, canned vegetables, and meat.

HOW THE GAMES WORK
The player is shown a virtual shopping list with three items from one of the store departments. The player:

• clicks on the green button to get a 1, 2, or 3.
• chooses to move forward or backward.
• lands on a particular item.
• hears, 'Do you need to buy this item?'
• looks at shopping list and selects 'yes' or 'no.'

If the player selects 'yes,' the Price Check Screen appears, the player clicks on the green button again, and the number that the player receives (1, 2, or 3) determines the price of the item:

1. Everyday Low Price
2. Sale Price
3. Coupon Price

The item moves into the player's shopping cart and the dollar amount appears to the right of the item on the shopping list. The player repeats the steps until all three items have prices. After the player adds the three prices, a new shopping list appears with three items from another department.

END OF GAME
Player adds the amounts spent in each department for a final total. Each software CD program can also be purchased with PCI's Money Calc to assist students with addition.
