Teach students relevant social skills they will need to successfully transition to independent living.
Explore Your Community is a full-year curriculum for transition students stressing essential skills for successful independent living. Students participate in 24 sequenced lessons that cover transportation, shopping, dining, banking, and recreation. Students use the Student Book to answer anticipatory questions, study vocabulary, and read an illustrated essay. Then, students watch the DVD. In each lesson, students learn to follow a photo sequence, practice social skills, complete comprehension tests, and act out role-plays.
Student Book is heavily illustrated to support struggling readers.
Instructor's Guide has role play scenarios, teaching tips, and problem-solving discussion questions. The guide also includes a Win/Mac CD with PDF files of student materials for printouts and an electronic Image Library to create communication overlays and additional assignments.
Community Explorer live-action DVD shows each community activity step by step with narrators highlighting important points and relevant social skills.
