Turn Nonreaders into Successful Readers With This Scientifically Research-Based Program.
PCI Reading Program Software is a multimedia presentation of the award-winning print program that teaches students with developmental disabilities, autism, and significant learning disabilities to read. The software includes all the lessons and activities in the PCI Reading Program and can be used alone or in conjunction with the print materials. The Level One Software is accessible for students who are single-switch and scan, touch screen, or mouse users. The program features a simple user interface with a dude ranch theme. Activities at the PCI Ranch include horseback riding, cow roping, campfires, hayrides, and more.
Works Just Like the Print Program The software follows the lesson cycle of the print program and includes lessons for all the print components. Students who are familiar with the print program will recognize the books and activities, such as Word Building Lessons, Trace and Read, Guided Word Practice, and Building Reading Skills. The interactive lessons feature errorless teaching. Incorrect answers are removed from the screen, and the student is prompted to make another selection. An animated teenage Reading Buddy helps guide the student through the activities, offering assistance and encouragement. After completing all the activities for one word and after each Posttest, a student is given access to the library, which is a place where he or she can make independent choices. A student can view all the certificates he or she has earned, monitor the growth of the Word Wall as he or she advances through the program, select books to read from the virtual library, and play a word-matching game.
Instructional Adaptations PCI Reading Program Software offers a variety of settings that allows the teacher to adapt the lesson presentation for each student or for an entire class. There are four different categories of student settings in the software: Time, Audio, Lesson, and Accessibility. These include the ability to set the scanning size, color, and speed; change the font size; have verbal cues repeated; and turn off sound effects. In addition, the teacher may select a particular lesson for the student to review or change the order of lesson presentation. After each Posttest, the software will suggest a recommended sequence of review activities for each word missed. The teacher can follow the recommendation or create a customized review based on the student's specific learning needs.
Progress Monitoring The teacher can monitor class progress or individual student assessment information in the Student Records area. The teacher can enter scores and anecdotal notes for PCI Reading Program activities that are completed away from the computer. The scores can then be reviewed or printed for use in parent conferences or for Adequate Yearly Progress reports. The software generates letters for parents that inform them of their child's program progress.
