Overview - PCI READING PROG PLASTIC CARD TRAY

The PCI Reading Programs are a research-based curriculum created specifically to teach students with developmental disabilities, autism, and significant learning disabilities how to read. Levels One and Two teach 280 sight words and "real-world" nouns and verbs through a comprehensive system of repetition, "hands-on" practice, controlled-vocabulary reading, and high-interest activities. Nonreaders become successful readers word by word, reading 42 engaging, full-color books along the way.
These accessories and workbooks are included in the Level One and Level Two Print programs and may also be purchased separately as additional tools for use with classroom activities, for teaching in small groups, or replacing a damaged accessory.
Plastic Viewer
The plastic viewer focuses the student's attention when working on a Word Building Lesson or taking a comprehensive test. The open Reading Box on the plastic viewer reveals only the word or words the teacher wants the student to identify, touch, or say aloud.
Plastic Card Tray
When introducing new Word Cards or going through a Guided Word Practice, the plastic card tray is used to display each card clearly for the day's lesson. The teacher can then demonstrate how the cards work by placing them on the card tray in the order which the words will be learned. For example: "this," "is," "a," and "home." Students may also build phrases and sentences they are learning by using Word and Picture Cards on the plastic card tray.
Trace & Read Workbooks
The workbook is to tactually reinforce the look and shape of the new word in the student's mind. Following each Word Building Lesson, the target word is tactually reinforced using the trace and read technique in the workbook. Each workbook page includes five lines in one of two formats: a combination of words and pictures or all words. On each line, the new word appears in dotted lines. The student traces over these lines with a pen or pencil. A student who does not have the fine motor skills to grasp a pen or pencil may trace the words with his or her finger.
