Overview - RWPWS 3 - GROCERY STORE SOFTWARE LAB PACK (5)
These software programs, by PCI's Janie Haugen-McLane, help students with limited or no reading skills learn commonly used words heard in everyday life. The 800 picture words have full-color illustrations and are taught in groups of five to increase comprehension and retention. Simple, easy-to-understand definitions and sentences are read aloud for each word, giving students both general and "real-world" meanings.
SEQUENCE OF ACTIVITIES Each picture word is introduced with its matching illustration. Once the word is read aloud, a series of activities helps students learn to identify, pronounce, define, and use the word.
• Learn each word and its definition.
• Hear each word used in a sentence.
• Choose the correct picture and word from two choices.
• Choose the correct picture and word from three choices.
• Identify each word and its picture from five choices.
GROCERY STORE FOODS WORDS 200 picture words include foods found in various departments in a grocery store. These words include bacon, bananas, biscuits, bologna, bread, brownie mix, butter, cake, celery, cereal, cherries, chicken, chicken noodle soup, chili, coffee, crackers, eggs, fish, flour, French fries, fruit cocktail, green beans, hamburger patties, ice cream, marshmallows, milk, mustard, orange juice, peanut butter, pickles, pizza, potato chips, potatoes, pumpkin, salad dressing, salt, spaghetti, sugar, tomatoes, tortillas, and waffles.
ASSESSMENT SCREEN TRACKS STUDENTS' PROGRESS Teachers will love the easy-to-use assessment screen which keeps track of students' progress with each word in the program. The assessment screen will tell the teacher how many tries it took the student to identify each word correctly. Teachers can use this information to identify the words students need to spend more time studying.
