This complete set of three workbooks offers three levels of fun, challenging math puzzles that provide valuable practice in basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The books feature hundreds of reproducible unique math drills with whimsical illustrations that appeal to both teens and adults.
The reproducible worksheets are arranged into four creative layouts: Triangles of Terror, Wheels of Torture, Cross Number Curses, and Grids of Grief. The puzzles can be solved independently or in teams. Some students will benefit most by using a calculator to complete the worksheets. Teaching suggestions and Answer Keys are included in the front of each book, along with detailed student directions on how to work each type of puzzle. Progress can be easily assessed as the drills are used repetitively.
The three levels allow for logical progression of math drills:
Level 1. 48
pages of addition and subtraction puzzles with 1, 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers.
Level 2.
48 pages of multiplication and division puzzles with 1, 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers.
Level 3.
80 pages of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division puzzles with 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 digit numbers.
Puzzle Formats
Triangles of Terror.
Start with the number in the "start" box. Depending on the level, students add, subtract, multiply, or divide to get a new total. Write this new total in the second box. Then, using the new total, add, subtract, multiply, or divide the third number. Continue in this manner until reaching the top.
Wheels of Torture.
Start with the number in the box at the center of the spoke. Depending on the level, students add, subtract, multiply, or divide using the number in the second box. Write this new total in the second box. Then, using the new total, add, subtract, multiply, or divide using the third number. Continue until reaching the outer edge. Move to the next spoke and start in the center and work your way out again. Do all 12 spokes.
Cross Number Curses.
Find the answers for each problem in the across and down boxes. Write the answers in the matching boxes of the puzzle, putting only one digit in each box of the puzzle.
Grids of Grief.
In Levels 1 and 2, students need to look at the top left of the page to see if they are adding/subtracting, or multiplying/dividing. In Level 3, every number down the left side must be multiplied with every number across the top.
Special Features
Math Gadgets was designed to provide for mathematics drill. Teachers should assign worksheets at student's functional level (the level at which the student will have to extend some effort, but can do the work without help). At Levels 1 and 2, help is given in the form of addition/subtraction and multiplication/division charts in the lower right hand corner of each worksheet.
