Overview - COMMUNICATE: IDEAS
Communicate is a series of software programs that will handle symbols, pictures, and words. The aim is to bring all of the main computer-based activities within the range of symbol users and people creating supported materials. The programs in this series meet the diverse needs of students working in inclusive settings as well as those in specialized centers.
Communicate: In Print 2
This desktop-publishing program creates symbol-supported resources for printing. It contains the full Widgit Symbol set, which has been developed to give emerging, struggling, or nonreaders access to information. The symbols, along with the powerful features and freedom of layout of desktop publishing, help to create materials that have a professional look, while being completely accessible. Create signs, labels, posters, books, leaflets, flash cards, worksheets, and timetables. Includes a collection of templates and resources. It is whiteboard-friendly and easy to use, making it possible for the whole class to collaborate on activities and documents. System Requirements: Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7.
Communicate: SymWriter
This is a symbol-supported word processor that any writer, regardless of literacy levels, can use to author documents. Writers of any age or ability can use the Widgit Symbols to see the meaning of words as they type, supporting access to new or challenging vocabulary. Menus, program functions, and on-screen grids can be customized. On-screen grids allow selection of text, symbols, and pictures to assist writing, even if spelling ability is limited or accessing the keyboard is a barrier. Simple access to designing grids enables quick editing or creation of content for those supporting the writer. System Requirements: Windows XP, Vista, 7.
Communicate: By Choice
This is a symbol-supported learning and choices tool that is fully switch accessible and great for use on interactive whiteboards and touch screens. Includes the full Widgit Symbol set and a collection of more than 100 activities that are ready to use or edit quickly and easily. Activities include color and shape, language comprehension, letter work, memory, number, science, sequencing and sorting, visual discrimination, word work, and more. Easily change resources to meet content, level of learning, and age-appropriate needs. Access clip art and import graphics to personalize activities. Use reinforcement and feedback in individual activities to help stimulate students' interest. By Choice is made up of two programs: a player for students to work through the activities and an editor to edit existing activities and create new ones. The easiest way to get the most out of the program is to edit an existing activity and replace the text and images to change the subject matter. System Requirements: Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7.
Communicate: Ideas
This program enables thoughts and ideas to be mapped out and linked together within colorful mind maps that feature Widgit Symbols. Combining the visual tool of mind mapping with the support of the Widgit Symbol set, the program enables people who struggle to formulate thoughts verbally or in writing, such as people with special educational or language and communication needs, to map out thoughts, ideas, and work. Create personal and interactive documents by adding your own images or photos to a mind map, as well as links to websites, sound clips, and videos. Provides the ideal tool for presenting and mapping out inclusive symbol-supported discussion in any environment, whether with an individual on-screen or in print, or with a group on an interactive whiteboard. System Requirements: Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7.
