The Read, Think and Write About It reproducible binders, by Rosie Simms, encourage reluctant readers to read for enjoyment while reinforcing critical comprehension, writing, and vocabulary skills. Each 120-page binder features 10 fiction and 10 nonfiction passages, covering a wide range of topics and written at a second or third grade reading level. Activity sheets follow each passage and use a variety of formats, including multiple choice, fill in the blank, graphs, and charts.
Written to engage struggling readers, passages cover a variety of high-interest, real-world; topics, including famous people, intriguing events, and action-oriented careers. Each low-level passage is between 210 and 320 words and is laid out in two columns for ease of reading. Both fiction and nonfiction passages include simple illustrations to serve as visual cues. Examples of the first binder titles include Pickle Week, a nonfiction passage about a unique ten-day celebration and The Real Dirt About Dirt Bikes, a fiction passage about a character who wants to learn how to ride dirt bikes.
