Create an enjoyable reading environment for Grades K-6 with Spectrum Reading, a compelling series that improves phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and study skills. The fun, engaging series encourages independent study while providing practice in essential skills. The books are available separately or as a seven-book set.
The Spectrum Reading Series can be used in many different ways:
- For the whole class, to provide intensive reinforcement of reading skills or to supplement a basal reading program
- For reading groups, to provide skills practice at the appropriate levels
- For individual use, to help build a completely individualized program
- For at-home practice, to expand on skills learned in the classroom
Students develop and refine key skills including:
- Comprehension exercises that help students go beyond facts and details to draw conclusion, predict outcomes, identify cause and effect, and develop other higher level comprehension skills.
- Vocabulary development that builds on words from the reading selections. In addition to learning synonyms, antonyms, and words with multiple meanings, students develop sight vocabulary and learn to use context as a clue for meaning.
- Decoding exercises that refine students' abilities to understand new reading words.
- Study skills that are developed by helping students apply their reading skills to new tasks such as using reference materials, reading graphs, and applying other everyday life skills.
In each 150-page full-color workbook, students gain meaningful practice when they read a short passage and then answer comprehension and vocabulary questions. Each book contains captivating content and whimsical graphics, so children are eager to find out what happens next.
