| The PCI Reading Program is a new, research-based curriculum designed to help nonreaders become successful readers. Created specifically for students with developmental disabilities, autism, and significant learning disabilities, the three-level program ensures success through a series of highly controlled mastery-based activities. Students become independent readers step by step, book by book. |

| Three Levels |
| The foundation of the PCI Reading Program is its bridging approach to learning how to read. Nonreaders begin with Level One, which uses visual discrimination to teach automatic recognition of 140 sight words and common nouns and verbs. In Level Two, students learn 140 additional words while also learning to apply a few commonly used inflectional endings such as -s and -ing. Finally, in Level Three, the 280 words students have learned are linked together by phonetic patterns to develop students' basic decoding strategies and word-attack skills. The Level Three skills are the final links in the bridge toward reading independence beyond the program. |

| Age-Appropriate Illustrations and Story Lines |
Throughout all three levels, real-world, age-appropriate illustrations and contemporary adolescent characters appeal to learners of all ages. The program materials use repetition and review along with frequent praise to guarantee successful learning and to increase students' self-confidence.
