Overview - PCI READING PROGRAM LVL 1 PRINT & SOFTWR SET
Scientifically Research-Based Reading Program.
PCI Reading Program Level One Print and Software set is a multimedia presentation of the print program enhanced with the software component to teach students with developmental disabilities, autism, and significant learning disabilities to read. Level One Print teaches 140 basic sight words from the Dolch and Fry lists and "real-world" words through a comprehensive system. Students progress from reading individual words to 8-12 word sentences. Included are 28 books, ranging in length from 8 to 12 pages.
The Level One Software contains all the lessons and activities in the Level One Print and can be used alone or in conjunction with the print materials. This offers flexibility for the teacher who has students with different learning styles and speeds. The Level One Software is accessible for students who are single-switch and scan, touch screen, or mouse users. The program features a simple user interface with a dude ranch theme. Activities at the PCI Ranch include horseback riding, cow roping, campfires, hayrides, and more.
Features
The five-step print lesson cycle is based on visual discrimination and is designed to teach students to automatically recognize and correctly pronounce one word at a time. As each new word is learned, previous words are continually reviewed, which promotes both short- and long-term retention. The software follows the lesson cycle of the print program and includes lessons for all the print components. An animated teenage Reading Buddy helps guide the student through the activities, offering assistance and encouragement.
The PCI Reading Program Level One Print and Software offers a variety of methods that allows the teacher to adapt the lesson presentation for each student or for an entire class. In the software, the teacher may select a particular lesson for students to review or change the order of lesson presentation. The software posttests will suggest a recommended sequence of review activities for each word missed. The teacher can follow the recommendation or create a customized review based on the student's specific learning needs. The teacher can monitor class progress or individual student assessment information in the Student Records area as well as track scores and anecdotal notes for PCI Reading Program activities that are completed away from the computer. The scores can then be reviewed or printed for use in parent conferences or for Adequate Yearly Progress reports.
