SAN ANTONIO (June 14, 2011) – PCI Education, the premier provider of resources for students with special needs, has been honored in The Association of Educational Publishers’ (AEP) 2011 awards program. During the AEP’s annual awards banquet and gala, PCI Reading Program Software Levels One and Two received a Distinguished Achievement Award in the Special Education and Intervention, Intellectual Disabilities, Elementary category. One of the largest and longest-running programs of its kind, the AEP Awards and its seal of excellence are widely recognized by educators, administrators and parents as a mark of outstanding educational value.
“Helping students succeed and teachers better hone their craft is the hallmark of a great educational product,” said Charlene Gaynor, CEO of AEP. “This year we are proud to honor a range of comprehensive, user-friendly educational tools and services that not only exude these qualities, but exemplify instructional soundness, ingenuity, and innovation.”
The interactive lessons in PCI Reading Program Software Levels One and Two teach students to recognize high frequency words within a comprehensive program of instruction, practice, and assessment. The programincludes interactive multimedia program presentations that teach students with developmental disabilities, autism, and significant learning disabilities to read.
"We are thrilled to receive this award," said co-author Janie Hohlt. "With the software version of the PCI Reading Program, we are able to offer an array of options to bring high-quality reading instruction to students with a range of disabilities and challenges."
The Distinguished Achievement Awards are judged in four categories (Curriculum, Periodicals, Professional Development, and Technology) and reviewed according to subject area and grade level. Entries are evaluated on traits such as efficacy, usability, and overall educational value.
For more than four decades, the AEP Awards have honored outstanding resources for teaching and learning in all media and educational settings.
