Overview - LIFE SKILLS LIBRARY

PCI's Life Skills Programs, written by Janie Haugen-McLane, are being used by many secondary teachers to teach students how to be successful in the subject of "life." Not only have these games proven to be effective for secondary students with special learning and behavioral needs, but they have helped all students in the class learn how to act at school, at home, and in the community. These programs are ideal for inclusive, self-contained, and resource classrooms, because the object is not to win or lose, but to improve on the skills in each game.

The fun-to-play programs encourage socialization and positive behavioral reactions, while offering basic life-skills instruction that promotes independence. There are 16 different life-skills games in PCI's Life Skills Library. They are divided into two series of 8 games, and each series has a different format. This program also encourages positive interpersonal skills between teacher and student.
