Overview - BUNCHES OF GRAMMAR FUN BINDER 1

Written especially for middle and high school students with learning differences, the new Bunches of Grammar Fun series presents the most basic points of grammar in an entertaining, easy-to-read manner. English teacher Randy Larson, author of the popular Hot Fudge Monday, combines humor with short, simple activities that teach students about the parts of speech. Each of the three binders in the series features 219 reproducible pages of worksheets and quizzes. Used as a series, the binders help students master grammar skills step by step.

HIGH-INTEREST ACTIVITIES Each worksheet in the program includes a brief explanation of an important grammar concept followed by a humorous practice activity. Directions are easy to understand. Wacky examples, such as a shark in a bathtub to illustrate a reason to use the interjection “wow,” hold students’ interest and help grammar rules make sense.

QUIZZES Reproducible quizzes that assess students’ understanding of the major concepts covered are included within the units. No explanation or examples are given, but there is still an amusing introduction leading off each quiz to help students who suffer from test anxiety to relax.

UNITS Each binder is organized into eight units that address the parts of speech. Units are Nouns, Pronouns, Adjectives, Verbs, Adverbs, Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections. Integrated into the activities are grammar rules, such as capitalization and punctuation, as well as pointers for how to write with style and pizzazz.

MULTIPLE USES The Bunches of Grammar Fun series can be used as a supplement to any existing grammar program or as a stand-alone curriculum. In sequence, the binders teach the parts of speech using a building blocks method. Since each binder also uses fresh material to reinforce skills learned in the previous binder, individual binders are also effective for students who need additional practice to master basic concepts.

3-BINDER SERIES Binder 1 covers the most basic grammar skills. Binder 2 expands upon the topics covered in Binder 1 with activities that are slightly more challenging. Binder 3 provides the next step up with worksheets that include sentence-writing activities and show students how to integrate all of the skills they have learned.
