Overview - BASIC PARAGRAPH PRACTICE PRINT BINDER
Paragraph Practice Series helps struggling learners and students with learning differences learn how to write confidently step-by-step. This series gives students a foolproof strategy for writing paragraphs with these reproducible binders. When faced with a standardized-test prompt, journal topic, or essay question, many students have difficulty deciding what to write, how much to write, and what order to write in.
These two binders, Basic Paragraph Practice and More Basic Paragraph Practice, help students organize their thoughts to transfer to paper in paragraph format.
Step-By-Step Process
Students use a graphic organizer to write a five-sentence paragraph, including a topic sentence, three detail sentences, and a concluding sentence. Each sentence goes in its own box so students can be sure to include all the parts. After completing all of the steps, students rewrite the five sentences in paragraph form.
Real-World Topics
Each reproducible binder presents captivating topics in 100 high-interest prompts, including the following:
• Who are your favorite musicians?
• What cities would you like to visit?
• What are your favorite things to wear?
• What foods would you be least likely to try?
• Think about your best friend. Why is he or she your best friend?
Features
• 2 Reproducible Print Binders
• 100 Real-World Topics per Binder
• Graphic Organizers
Multi-Paragraph Practice prepares students to write multi-paragraph essays using the lessons and reproducible graphic organizers in this binder. Similar in format to Basic Paragraph Practice and More Basic Paragraph Practice, Multi-Paragraph Practice features graphic organizers that provide a step-by-step process of writing support.
The Process
Through a series of lessons, examples, and practice activities, students learn to write the key parts of essays: introductory paragraphs, body paragraphs, and concluding paragraphs. After they learn and practice the three key parts of essays, students move on to practice writing three-, four-, and five-paragraph essays. A graphic organizer gives students a visual framework to support them as they organize ideas into separate paragraphs and use elaboration strategies to develop and practice writing multi-paragraph essays.

"too costly for simple idea"
by

While the Basic Paragraph Practice Binder contains 110 pages, 5 pages are instructional, and the rest are exact copies of the same template for writing paragraphs, with only the topic line on top being different. The same idea could have been produced much more efficiently by simply providing one master template and a list of 100 topics.
Advantages
It's a nice, simple idea for beginning writers. The template is handy.
Disadvantages
Not much "meat." Too costly for what it is. The same product could have been produced as a 10- page brochure.

This is a unique strategy for developing writing from the very basics of letters to a complete paragraph. The easy to identify with symbols help students know at a glance what they need to write and add. Many writing strategies start at higher levels with the expectation that students can form complete thoughts and express them in phrases and sentences. This book takes it much lower and slower and it ideal for those students who need repetition and structure to grasp, comprehend, and apply it in writing. It’s a wonderfully developed product that is ideal for beginning writings but ageless in design and could be used for any special ed student who needs additional help or guidance with writing.
